STUDENT RESOURCES

Students are required to complete forty hours per year (grades 10-12) of community action. Our intent is for students to select experiences that are meaningful and of personal interest. Based on the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, community action is a way for students to gain experience, develop skills, and help improve conditions in their community. Listed below are local organizations looking for teen volunteers.

ACTION OPPORTUNTIES

AMERICAN RED CROSS

Youth Program (age 13-15) offers meaningful opportunities for education, training and community service.

BODEGA BAY RESEARCH CENTER

Multiple volunteer opportunities for those interested in SDG Goal #14- Life Below Water.

CAZADERO MUSIC CAMP

Help counselors with young children. Must be 15 years old and proficient with one musical instrument.

CERES COMMUNITY GARDEN

Teen chefs and gardeners help provide meals for low income families and those recovering from illness.

CITY OF SEBASTOPOL

A variety of local volunteer options, both short and long-term.

COUNTY OF SONOMA

Variety of opportunities throughout the country, including animal services, art, and youth programs.

FARM TO PANTRY

Farm to Pantry rescues food that would normally go to waste, and gets it to people in need.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOOD BANK

Volunteers give their time to make sure their neighbors in Sonoma County who live with HIV and other serious illnesses consistently receive fresh, healthy food.

FORESTVILLE TEEN CLINIC

Providing confidential services related to health and reproductive education.

HUMANE SOCIETY OF SONOMA COUNTY

A local non-profit that provides a safe-haven for animals. Youth volunteers can serve as Junior Camp Counselors (must be Junior or Senior in high school)

LAGUNA DE SANTA ROSA FOUNDATION

The Laguna Foundation offers a range of internship opportunities working outdoors, the administrative side of environmental non-profits, education or science.

PEPPERWOOD PRESERVE

"Conservation through Science" -Volunteer workdays, land management, garden work, citizen science, and teen naturalist program.

REDWOOD EMPIRE FOOD BANK

Multiple volunteer opportunities to help feed community neighbors in need. Very flexible shifts and the opportunity to work with others.

RUSSIAN RIVERKEEPERS

From picking up trash to removing invasive species, volunteers are needed throughout the year to protect the watershed.

SAFARI WEST WILDLIFE FOUNDATION JUNIOR KEEPER PROGRAM

Do you love animals? Be part of a mission to create wildlife advocates around the world.

SANTA ROSA PARKS AND RECREATION

Volunteer opportunities to help seniors and youth all year long. Volunteering takes place at individual parks through a variety of activities.

SEBASTOPOL WORLD FRIENDS

Sebastopol's sister-city organization promoting friendship and world peace.

SONOMA COUNTY SHERIFF DEPARTMENT EXPLORER PROGRAM

The Explorer Program is an excellent opportunity for young people between the ages of fourteen and twenty to gain experience in Law Enforcement.

STEWARDS OF THE COAST AND REDWOODS

Help educate and connect visitors to their parks!Throughout the year, Stewards offers trainings for most of our volunteer programs in Armstrong Woods, Austin Creek and the Sonoma Coast.

An initiative of the United Nations to address issues of inequality, poverty, and climate change by the year 2030. Each Community Action activity should connect to the Global Goals.

The Four Domains of Global Competence come from The Asia Society, and articulate the knowledge and skills students need in the 21st century. The Four Domains are a framework for guiding student learning both within and across disciplines.

The National Geographic Learning Framework ensures continuity between the coursework students are engaged with, and the activities they participate in.
